The CRS CM team addressed several construction challenges with this project. Scope included roadway construction of a new roundabout, widening existing roads, and a new roadway alignment in difficult mountainous greenfield areas. Soil settlement concerns and extensive drainage components presented some unique challenges that are also prevalent on this project.
Key issues included maintaining traffic access on existing roads, traffic mobility and accessibility, monitoring of sensitive construction areas including sequencing of utility crossings, placing BMPs and silt fences around environmentally sensitive areas, notifying stakeholders of upcoming construction schedule and 334 LF of shotcrete retaining wall and drainage for the wall.
Lessons learned from this project included improved understanding of BMPs in mountainous areas as we install riprap and drainage features which provided early detection of potential issues.
