The Vision: Advance Ogden City’s downtown revitalization efforts and implement a key component of the City’s Bike Master Plan to create and build an active transportation corridor for bikers and pedestrians from the Ogden River Parkway to downtown.
The Solution: CRS Engineers led this collaborative design-build project with the City, subconsultants, the contractor, and numerous stakeholders to plan, design, and complete construction of the Grant Avenue Promenade Phase 1, located from 20th to 22nd Street in Ogden, Utah.
CRS exceeded client expectations in design and schedule.
Of significant note: at the City’s request, the schedule was accelerated to coincide with a high profile public event attracting over 500,000 visitors to downtown Ogden on the Grant Avenue—a unique opportunity to showcase the Promenade.
CRS worked closely with the City’s contractor to successfully fast track and complete this 2-year project in 7 short months.
The promenade is recognized (by press, other communities, governmental agencies, and cycling enthusiasts) as the benchmark for active transportation design in Utah. Unique aspects of the project include dedicated lanes for cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles. Each lane is separated with landscaped median dividers. Colored stamped concrete designs at intersections and raised crosswalks, which double as speed bumps, increase safety and aesthetics.
Sustainable design methods were utilized throughout: from carefully selected trees and drought-resistant plants to water conservation with a custom designed drainage system to naturally filter and recycle storm run-off for irrigating the landscaped medians.
