Ogden retained CRS Engineers (CRS) to assist with a unique economic development project: to provide site development planning and civil engineering design to revitalize the abandoned historic Ogden Union stockyards to create a 51-acre “lifestyle” industrial and manufacturing park.
Located adjacent to the Weber River in West Ogden, the engineering challenges to achieve the project objectives were diverse and complicated: from a complex FEMA floodplain
map revision (upon which the feasibility of the entire project hinged) to accomplishing the feat of bringing water to the site by designing 1.5 miles of 24” water line through an adjacent Superfund site, under an existing active railyard, and ultimately underneath the Weber River.
Other design enhancements included: active transportation corridors to safely and aesthetically accommodate pedestrian, bike, and large commercial and industrial traffic side-byside; sustainable methods for capturing and re-using storm water; connections to Ogden’s vast trail network; and, all the while, consistently preserving the historic heritage of the site.
